Terminology

It can sometimes be confusing when reading through item descriptions, especially when trying to understand a word that may have more than one meaning.  For example, when the word Emerald is used, it could mean the gem, the color, or the cut.  This section has been added to try and clarify such situations as used on our site.  Please call or email for clarification if there is any doubt as to meaning of a described item.

  • Gold:  when used by itself regarding a setting means 'gold color' and has been plated with real gold.  If the item is solid gold, it will be described as such and the K rating will be given if known.
  • Silver: when used by itself regarding a setting means 'silver color' and is silver plated or rodium plated. If the item is solid silver, it will be described as sterling silver, or 9.25 SS.
  • Diamond Dust:  very small chips from either real diamonds or crystal.
  • CZ:  Genuine Cubic Zirconia.
  • Crystal: Genuine Crystal, as opposed to glass.
  • Crystalite: Synthetic composite that looks like crystal. Not to be confused with 'Crystal Light Productions' Chroma Photo Crystals available on this site.
  • Austrian Crystal: Genuine Austrian Crystal (higher quality) as opposed to common crystal.
  • Aura Borealis (or A/B for short): Clear Austrian Crystal that gives off a brilliant spectrum of color.  Often used by Swarovski.
Colored Stones:
  • Amethyst: with regard to the stone, means a dark purple-blue crystal, CZ, etc.
  • Emerald: with regard to the stone, means a green colored crystal, CZ, etc.
  • Peridot: with regard to the stone, means a light translucent green colored crystal, CZ, etc.
  • Ruby:  with regard to the stone, means a red colored crystal, CZ, etc.
  • Sapphire:  with regard to the stone, means a blue colored crystal, CZ, etc.
  • Swarovski Crystal: Genuine Austrian Crystal from the Swarovski company.
